A petroleum tanker carrying 60,000 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) lost control and somersaulted along the Oyo township, along the Oyo-Ogbomoso expressway on Wednesday.

Heritage Echo gathered that the incident occurred at Irepo junction with registration number KMC 65 ZC (KANO), spilling its contents onto the roadside.

Confirming the incidents to our correspondence, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Fire Service Reform/Agency Chairman, Hon. Moroof Adebayo Akinwande, stated that no casualty was recorded.

He said, “The incident was reported at exactly 15:51hrs on Wednesday, 11th June,2025, through a telephone call. Mr. Adepoju reported a falling trailer tanker loaded with petroleum spirit at the above address.

“The Agency’s personnel, led by CFM Atanda, swiftly responded to the emergency call. On arrival, we met a falling HOWO trailer tanker with registration No. KMC65ZC (KANO) of 60,000litres capacity loaded with Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) lost control whilst on motion and somersaulted to the road sides; content gushing out.

“We quickly covered the spillage with chemical foam compound to neutralize the flame of the liquid, which can trigger naked fire from a close or far place”. He affirmed.

He further reiterated that the accident was due to a lack of absolute concentration while driving by the truck driver.

No casualty was recorded, but the tanker was damaged, and the fire service was able to save properties worth millions of naira.

However, the Federal Fire Service was also in attendance during the operation, the Nigerian police from Ojongbodu Division, Oyo, were at the scene of the accident for security cover.
