The lawmaker representing Afijio State Constituency at the Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon. Prince Oladeji Oparinde, has announced plans to offer free Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) registration slots to students across the constituency.

Oparinde, who is the Chairman of the Committee on Energy and Mineral Resources, stated that the initiative, is aimed at easing the financial burden on parents and guardians while promoting access to tertiary education among youths in Afijio Local Government Area.

Hon. Oparinde disclosed that the free slots will be distributed evenly across the ten wards in the council area, with five beneficiaries selected from each ward to ensure fairness and inclusiveness.

He further explained that the selection process will cut across religious and cultural lines, as beneficiaries will be drawn from Christian, Muslim, and traditional backgrounds, reflecting the diverse composition of the constituency.

The lawmaker noted that education remains a critical tool for social and economic development, stressing that investing in students is a long-term investment in the future of Afijio.

According to him, the programme is part of his broader commitment to youth empowerment and human capital development since assuming office.

Hon. Oparinde also urged prospective beneficiaries to take advantage of the opportunity by preparing adequately for the examination and remaining focused on their academic goals.

He added that relevant stakeholders, including ward leaders and community representatives, will be involved in the nomination process to ensure transparency and credibility.

The exercise is scheduled to be held on Monday, January 26, 2026, at a venue to be communicated to beneficiaries through their respective ward coordinators.

Residents of Afijio have commended the initiative, describing it as a timely intervention that will help bridge educational gaps and support indigent students.

The lawmaker assured constituents that more education-focused programmes will be introduced in the coming months as part of his legislative and constituency outreach agenda.
