The Executive Chairman of Ibadan North Local Government, Hon. Oluwaseun Olufade, has officially flagged off the polio immunisation exercise in the local government, calling on parents, guardians and community leaders to ensure that all eligible children receive the life-saving vaccine.

The flag-off ceremony, held at the Sabo Central Mosque in Ibadan North Local Government, attracted traditional leaders, political office holders, health officials and other community stakeholders, with a strong representation from the Hausa community.

Speaking at the event, the Sarkin Hausawa of Ibadanland, Alhaji Muhammad Shuaibu Dikko II, expressed appreciation to the Executive Chairman for choosing Sabo community as the venue for the official flag-off of the immunisation exercise.

He noted that the Sabo community greatly appreciated the Chairman and his administration for the gesture, assuring him of the community’s continued support and cooperation whenever the need arises.

The traditional ruler also used the opportunity to remind the Chairman of the outstanding request concerning Samon Bola, expressing the community’s expectation that the matter would receive the necessary attention.

In his remarks, Hon. Olufade expressed profound appreciation to the Sarkin Hausawa of Ibadanland, Alhaji Muhammad Shuaibu Dikko II, and his council of chiefs for their tremendous support and mobilisation efforts, particularly in ensuring that members of the community turned out in large numbers to participate in the exercise.

The Chairman disclosed that despite his demanding schedule, he considered the immunisation exercise important enough to personally attend the ceremony and officially declare it open, emphasising his administration’s commitment to the health and well-being of residents.

He urged the entire Hausa community and other residents of Ibadan North to give the exercise maximum cooperation, particularly by ensuring that children between the ages of zero and 59 months are presented for polio vaccination.

Olufade further stressed that immunisation remains a critical public health intervention in protecting children against the poliovirus and preventing the devastating consequences of the disease, including lifelong paralysis.

He therefore appealed to parents and caregivers not to hesitate in welcoming health workers and presenting their eligible children for vaccination, noting that protecting children against preventable diseases requires collective responsibility and community-wide participation.

Following his address, the Chairman formally flagged off the polio immunisation exercise, signalling the commencement of the programme across Ibadan North Local Government.

Among dignitaries and stakeholders present at the flag-off ceremony were the Medical Officer of Health, Ibadan North Local Government, Dr. Aboderin Aminat; Dr. Adeola; the Supervisory Councillor on Health, Hon. Samson Ajala; Chairman, Ward Development Committee on Health (WDC), Baba Yisa Ayilara; and the Chief of Staff to the Chairman, Hon. Hamdy Mustapha.

Others included the Supervisory Councillor for Special Duties, Hon. Adewumi Adeagbo; Supervisory Councillor on Works, Hon. Sunday Olowolayemo; Supervisory Councillor on Security, Hon. Emmanuel Ehiabhi Eitomhen; Supervisory Councillor on Agriculture, Hon. Bala Muhammed; Special Assistant to the Chairman, Hon.
