The Chairman of the Oyo State Hospitals Management Board (OYSHMB), Hon. Adekunle Bankole on Friday, paid an unscheduled working visit to General Hospitals in Ogbomoso zone, in an effort to ensure effective healthcare service delivery.

The visit cut across General Hospital, Ikoyi-Ile in Oriire Local Government Area, General Hospital, Iresa-Adu in Surulere Local Government Area and General Hospital, Sunsun area in Ogbomoso South Local Government Area.

The purpose of the visit was to assess the hospitals’ level of emergency preparedness, assess working conditions, staff strength and attendance, as well as address related issues affecting service delivery.

During the inspection tour, Hon. Bankole assessed infrastructure, medical equipment, staffing, drug supply and general working conditions at the facilities.

He said the exercise is in line with the mandate of the Governor Seyi Makinde-led administration to strengthen secondary healthcare and ensure quality, accessible and affordable healthcare for residents.

Addressing hospital staff, Hon. Bankole emphasized the Governor’s commitment to improving healthcare delivery, stating that His Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde’s leadership and dedication must be mirrored at every level, with all staff members held accountable for their duties.

He made it clear that laxity, lateness and absenteeism would not be tolerated.

The chairman noted that findings from the inspection would guide immediate interventions and long-term plans for renovation, equipment procurement and manpower development.

He charged health workers to remain dedicated, professional, vigilant, proactive and compassionate in the discharge of their duties, stressing that quality service delivery and prompt response to patients and emergencies remain the cornerstone of public healthcare.

In the course of the visit, Hon. Bankole also reached out to community leaders and spoke to them about the crucial roles they must play in ensuring the hospitals’ success and sustainability.

He equally inspected ongoing projects, wards, laboratories, pharmacies and administrative blocks, and directed that identified gaps be documented for prompt action.

While commending the dedication and resilience of some staff members, the chairman assured all personnel of government’s commitment to their welfare and to continuous improvement of the health sector.

Staff at the visited hospitals, who were so excited with the conduct of the inspection, however, commended the chairman for the unscheduled visit, describing it as a morale booster and a demonstration of responsive leadership.

They expressed appreciation to Governor Makinde for his continued support for the health sector and pledged to reciprocate with improved service delivery.

It should be recalled that the chairman had earlier visited several hospitals in Ibadan and other zones of the state to assess the level of compliance with government directives on healthcare delivery, sanitation and patient care.

The tour, according to the board, will cover all secondary health facilities across the five geopolitical zones of the state.
