The South West Guild of Online Publishers (SWEGOP) has cautioned politicians against using unfounded information and false allegations as campaign strategies, urging them to focus on issue-based campaigns and present their programmes to the electorate.

The guild, in a statement by its acting Chairman, Chief Tunde Busari, and Publicity Secretary, Mr Remi Oladoye said political campaigns should be centred on policies, development plans and solutions to the challenges facing the people rather than attacks on individuals.

The SWEGOP urged politicians to demonstrate their capacity to govern by explaining how they intend to address the needs of the electorate, stressing that the spread of misinformation and unsubstantiated allegations could undermine public confidence in the political process.

The organisation called on political actors to embrace responsible communication and constructive engagements capable of promoting peaceful and meaningful democratic participation.

In a related development, the guild called on the government to declare a state of emergency on roads following the extensive damage caused by rainfall in several areas.

It expressed concern that many roads had been washed away or rendered impassable, causing hardship for motorists and other road users.

The guild urged the relevant authorities to urgently intervene by rehabilitating damaged roads, improving drainage systems and implementing lasting measures to prevent further deterioration.

The SWEGOP stressed that the condition of roads required immediate attention to safeguard lives, facilitate movement and prevent disruptions to commercial and economic activities.

It also called for a coordinated response by the government to address the worsening road situation and provide lasting solutions to the challenges confronting road users, particularly during the rainy season.
