Akinyele/Lagelu Deserves a Stronger Voice, Not Another Four Years of Excuses

For the past seven years, Akinyele/Lagelu Federal Constituency has continued to yearn for purposeful and result-oriented representation. From poor road infrastructure and inadequate access to water and healthcare to rising unemployment among young graduates, the constituency faces challenges that require more than routine political activities.

The previous representative, who spent four years in office, has been criticised for failing to deliver tangible, constituency-wide projects, with soap-making training reportedly organised for members of his political group among the initiatives often cited. In 2023, another representative emerged from Lagelu, but concerns about the impact of representation have persisted. Although POS and motorcycle empowerment initiatives have been introduced, constituents deserve broader legislative interventions and sustainable development that benefit the entire constituency.

The issue is not about political party affiliation; it is about competence, capacity and the ability to deliver quality representation. Akinyele/Lagelu needs a representative who can speak confidently in the Green Chamber, sponsor and support relevant legislation, exercise effective oversight and advocate for federal opportunities that address local challenges. Our constituency needs a voice that can command attention, build strategic relationships and translate the people’s concerns into practical solutions. With thousands of young graduates seeking employment and communities demanding better infrastructure, healthcare and water supply, the time has come to raise the standard of representation.

This is where Hon. Toheeb Adegoke ADLAT, the APM candidate for the 2027 House of Representatives election, enters the conversation. A young and articulate engineer, ADLAT presents himself as a candidate with the professional exposure, fresh ideas and problem-solving mindset needed to pursue a new direction. His supporters point to his philanthropic activities, including road grading, educational assistance for young people and empowerment initiatives funded with his personal resources. These efforts, they argue, reflect a commitment to community development even before occupying public office. The real opportunity is to translate this commitment into inclusive, transparent and measurable legislative performance if elected.

For the youths of Akinyele/Lagelu, the stakes are enormous. The constituency needs a representative who understands that empowerment programmes alone cannot address its wider challenges. Through effective lawmaking, strategic advocacy, oversight and collaboration with relevant institutions, a committed legislator can pursue job opportunities, infrastructure projects, educational support and improved public services. ADLAT’s supporters believe his energy, professional background and readiness to serve offer an opportunity to build a stronger voice for the constituency. Ultimately, the people must assess every candidate by competence, character, accessibility and the ability to deliver results rather than party sentiment or campaign promises.

As the 2027 general elections approach, Akinyele/Lagelu must decide what kind of future it wants. Should the constituency continue with the existing pattern of representation, or embrace a fresh approach that prioritises accountability, effective communication and people-centred development? For supporters of ADLAT, his candidacy represents an opportunity to begin a new chapter in the constituency’s political journey.

A vote for ADLAT, they believe, is a vote for the possibility of moving beyond ineffective representation and pursuing meaningful transformation. The ultimate measure of success, however, will be his ability to turn promises into action and ensure that the voices of Akinyele/Lagelu are heard, respected and represented in the Green Chamber.
