The political conversation in Akinyele/Lagelu Federal Constituency is gradually becoming a conversation about more than political parties or personalities. It is increasingly about the quality, capacity and direction of representation the constituency wants for the next chapter. At the centre of that conversation is Engineer Toheeb Adegoke, popularly known as ADLAT a young, vibrant, articulate and exposed professional whose emergence has introduced a fresh dimension to the race.
His supporters see in him not simply another candidate, but a representative of a generation prepared to bring new ideas, energy, and a broader understanding of governance to the National Assembly.
There is also the important question of rotation between Akinyele and Lagelu, the two local governments that make up the constituency. With the incumbent representing Lagelu and ADLAT coming from Akinyele, advocates of the rotational arrangement argue that the current political calculation favours Akinyele’s turn. But even beyond zoning, the central issue should be what Akinyele does with that opportunity. A turn is only meaningful when it produces quality representation. ADLAT’s candidacy is being presented against this backdrop: an Akinyele opportunity with a candidate who intends to represent both Akinyele and Lagelu without discrimination.
More importantly, legislative representation requires more than occupying a seat. The job demands the ability to understand legislation, contribute meaningfully to debates, scrutinise policies, perform oversight and effectively articulate the concerns of constituents. This is where ADLAT’s youthfulness, professional exposure, communication skills and intellectual vibrancy become central to the argument for his candidature. After the incumbent’s three-year tenure, constituents have every right to examine the quality and impact of the representation they have received and to ask what more can be achieved. ADLAT’s proposition is that the constituency deserves a representative who will approach the legislative assignment with energy, preparation and a willingness to engage the issues affecting the people.
His understanding of good governance further strengthens the case being made for him. ADLAT’s supporters point to a comprehensive and ambitious blueprint that goes beyond campaign rhetoric, with emphasis on development, empowerment, opportunities, effective advocacy and bringing government closer to the people. Recent engagements by ADLAT have also centred on youth participation and the need for representatives to articulate the economic realities confronting constituents. His recent community engagements, including interaction with traditional and religious institutions, have likewise been presented as part of a broader grassroots approach.
Ultimately, the argument for Engineer Toheeb Adegoke ADLAT is about capacity meeting opportunity. If the rotational principle points towards Akinyele, then the people deserve to examine the quality of the candidate being presented to them. If the constituency wants youthfulness without inexperience, exposure without detachment, ambition without empty rhetoric, and a blueprint that connects legislation with grassroots development, then ADLAT presents a compelling proposition for consideration. Akinyele/Lagelu is at a crossroads, and the choice before its people is not merely about changing a name on the ballot; it is about deciding what kind of representation should define the constituency’s next chapter.
