Engineer Toheeb Adegoke Adlat, the Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM) candidate for Akinyele/Lagelu Federal Constituency, has called for more effective representation of the constituency, saying the current economic realities in Nigeria require lawmakers who understand the challenges facing the people and can effectively articulate their interests.
Adlat made the call during an engagement with the APM Ward 8 Campaign Committee, where he also spoke on the role of youths in politics and the responsibilities of legislators in national development.
The engagement also provided an opportunity for stakeholders to highlight the renewed unity within the Ward 8 political structure. Addressing the committee, Hon. Dayo Opakunle, Oyo Central Senatorial Chairman, expressed delight at the unity he witnessed in the ward, noting that members who had previously operated in different factions were now coming together under one platform.
«“I am happy to see that we are now together as one family. There were different factions in Ward 8 before, but today, we are seeing ourselves as one. The emergence of Adlat has helped to bring people together and restore peace. What we need now is to sustain this unity and work together for the success of Adlat and the APM.”»
Speaking on the economic situation and the responsibilities of a legislator, Adlat said the challenges confronting Nigerians make effective representation particularly important. He explained that representation at the National Assembly goes beyond lawmaking to include oversight, constituency advocacy, engagement with government institutions and ensuring that the concerns of constituents receive appropriate attention.
«“The role of a legislator goes beyond making laws. A legislator must be able to provide effective oversight, represent the interests of the people and engage the relevant institutions of government. At a time when our people are facing economic challenges, Akinyele/Lagelu deserves representation that understands their realities and can effectively articulate their needs.”»
Adlat also charged youths across Akinyele and Lagelu to become more actively involved in politics and governance, urging them not to remain spectators in decisions affecting their future.
«“Our youths must not remain spectators. They must be part of the process of deciding the future of our constituency. I believe that with the participation of our young people and other stakeholders, we can contribute meaningfully to the development of Akinyele/Lagelu.”»
The engagement brought together members of the APM Ward 8 Campaign Committee, supporters, campaign representatives and media practitioners. Adlat was accompanied to the meeting by Hon. Lateef Alhaja, Akinyele APM Chairman; Hon. Dayo Opakunle, Oyo Central Senatorial Chairman; Alhaji Adegoke, father of the candidate; and Hon. Kunle, former Ward 5 Chairman. The meeting ended with renewed emphasis on unity, grassroots participation and collective engagement among stakeholders.
