The University of Ibadan Students’ Representative Council (UISU-SRC), under the leadership of its Speaker, Rt. Hon. John Oludele, is set to host the Odidiomo Students’ Legislative Summit, an intellectual and leadership-focused gathering aimed at promoting a new culture of service, responsible leadership and active participation in Nigeria’s democratic process.

The summit is to be held on September 22nd-23rd, 2026, and is being organised in honour of Hon. Stanley Adedeji Dhkirullah Olajide, popularly known as Odidiomo, a member of the House of Representatives and the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) candidate for the Oyo South Senatorial District.

With the theme, “The Service Paradigm: Transforming Mindset for Service-Driven Leadership in Nigeria,” the summit is expected to bring together students, young leaders, public affairs enthusiasts, student representatives, and other stakeholders for robust discussions on the need to redefine leadership as a call to service rather than a platform for personal privilege.

The theme is particularly significant at a time when young Nigerians are increasingly demanding a new approach to leadership, one founded on accountability, selfless service, competence, integrity,y and a genuine commitment to the welfare and development of the people.

The Odidiomo Students’ Legislative Summit is expected to provide a platform for critical engagement on how Nigeria can cultivate leaders who understand that public office is fundamentally a responsibility to serve and contribute meaningfully to societal development.

Under the leadership of Rt. Hon. John Oludele, the UISRC seeks to use the summit to deepen students’ understanding of legislative responsibilities, democratic governance and the important role of young people in shaping the future of the country.

Beyond the ceremonial recognition of Hon. Olajide, the programme is designed to inspire a generation of emerging leaders to embrace service as the central philosophy of leadership.

Participants are expected to explore the relationship between leadership and service, while examining how a transformation in mindset can help produce public officials and leaders who prioritise the collective interest above personal ambitions.

The summit will also create an avenue for dialogue, mentorship and the exchange of ideas between students and individuals with practical experience in public service and democratic representation.

According to the vision behind the initiative, meaningful national development requires a new generation of leaders who are prepared to listen, take responsibility, remain accountable and pursue policies and initiatives that positively impact the lives of the people.

The gathering is therefore expected to challenge participants to look beyond the traditional perception of leadership as a position of power and influence, while encouraging them to embrace leadership as an opportunity to solve problems, create value and serve humanity.

As Nigeria continues to navigate critical social, economic and political challenges, the need for leaders driven by competence, compassion, vision and service has become increasingly important.

The Odidiomo Students’ Legislative Summit is expected to contribute to this national conversation by equipping students and young leaders with ideas and perspectives that can shape their approach to leadership both within and beyond the university environment.

With preparations gathering momentum, the University of Ibadan Students’ Representative Council is expected to unveil further details concerning the date, venue, and lineup of activities for the summit.

Ultimately, the summit is positioned as more than an event held in honour of a political leader. It represents a platform for intellectual engagement and leadership development, with a focus on inspiring a new generation of Nigerians who recognise that true leadership begins with a commitment to service.

With the theme, “The Service Paradigm: Transforming Mindset for Service-Driven Leadership in Nigeria,” the Odidiomo Students’ Legislative Summit promises to place service, responsibility, and transformational leadership at the centre of conversations about Nigeria’s future.
