There were emotional scenes of gratitude and excitement on Thursday at the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) Secretariat in Ido Local Government Area of Oyo State, as the party’s candidate for the Ido/Ibarapa East Federal Constituency, Hon. Kolawole Sheu Adedeji, popularly known as KSA, led a major empowerment initiative for persons with disabilities, widows, and elderly residents.

The programme, which attracted a large gathering of beneficiaries, party members, community stakeholders, and residents, featured the distribution of wheelchairs, hearing aids, white canes for the visually impaired, elbow crutches, walking sticks, rice, and financial assistance to beneficiaries.

The intervention was presented as part of KSA’s continued efforts to support vulnerable members of the constituency and provide practical assistance to residents facing various socio-economic challenges.

Addressing the gathering, KSA reaffirmed his commitment to grassroots development, stating that the empowerment initiative was part of a broader vision aimed at improving the welfare and living conditions of residents across the federal constituency.

He urged beneficiaries and supporters to remain engaged in the democratic process, while assuring them that more community-oriented programmes were being planned.

The event also attracted commendations from political and community stakeholders.

The Executive Assistant on Disability Matters, Hon. Femi Timothy, who spoke on behalf of Barrister Bimbo Adekanmbi, commended the initiative and described KSA’s intervention as a practical demonstration of concern for vulnerable members of society.

The APM Chairman in Ido Local Government, Alhaji Musbahu Emiola, and other party leaders also praised KSA for what they described as his consistent philanthropic activities and support for people at the grassroots.

According to the speakers, KSA’s interventions have extended beyond political activities, noting that he has continued to commit personal resources towards assisting residents and supporting community development initiatives.

One of the most emotional moments of the programme occurred when a female beneficiary living with a hearing impairment approached KSA to express her appreciation after receiving a hearing aid.

During their interaction, she reportedly disclosed that her daughter was facing challenges with unpaid school fees. Moved by her appeal, KSA reportedly made an immediate financial transfer of ₦280,000 towards settling the outstanding school fees.

The gesture drew further reactions from those present at the event, with beneficiaries expressing appreciation for the assistance received.

KSA also took time to interact directly with traders at the Ido Local Government market, engaging groundnut sellers, fruit vendors, fish sellers, and other traders in a relaxed atmosphere.

The interaction provided an opportunity for him to listen to traders and residents while also offering financial support to some of the market participants.

The empowerment programme is expected to continue in Ibarapa East Local Government over the weekend, with a series of activities scheduled for Saturday and Sunday.

The planned activities include a free medical outreach targeting widows and elderly residents, a community food bank, further support for persons with disabilities, and the commissioning of a newly completed solar-powered borehole in the Suzuki area of Sango, Eruwa.

The weekend programme will also feature the grand finale of the KSA Football Competition, which is aimed at promoting youth participation in sports and fostering community engagement across Ido and Ibarapa East.

The series of activities forms part of KSA’s broader community engagement programme ahead of the 2027 political season, with organisers describing the interventions as an effort to provide immediate support to vulnerable residents while strengthening grassroots interaction.

For beneficiaries who received mobility aids, hearing devices, food items, and other forms of assistance, however, Thursday’s event was less about politics and more about receiving timely support at a period when such interventions were most needed.
