Benedict Akika: Building Oyo Grassroots Through OBF for Omituntun 3.0

The growing grassroots network of Oloye Benedict Akika, JP, founder of the Omituntun Benedict Forum (OBF) and Omituntun Benedict Foundation, is attracting attention as political activities ahead of the 2027 elections intensify across Oyo State.

Akika, the Agbaakin of Olorunda-Abaa and Mayegun of Akoboland, has built OBF into a socio-political and community-based platform which the organisation says has structures across the 33 Local Government Areas of Oyo State, five zones and among friends and supporters in the diaspora.

The forum has aligned itself with the vision of Governor Seyi Makinde for President of Nigeria, while also supporting the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) and 2027 Oyo State governorship candidate, Hon. Bimbo Adekanmbi.

The emerging political agenda is being promoted on the banner of Omituntun 3.0, with supporters describing it as a continuation of the development philosophy associated with the Makinde administration.

Through OBF, Akika has continued to mobilise grassroots stakeholders, youths, women, community leaders, artisans, market traders and other groups across the state in support of the agenda.

Beyond politics, Akika has established a reputation for empowerment and humanitarian interventions. Through OBF and the Omituntun Benedict Foundation, his initiatives have included support for youths, women, artisans and vulnerable residents, as well as interventions in education and community development.

Akika’s expanding grassroots structure is expected to play a significant role in mobilising support for Makinde’s presidential ambition, Adekanmbi’s governorship bid and the broader Omituntun 3.0 agenda.

For his supporters, the mission is to take the Omituntun vision deeper into the grassroots while using OBF as a platform for political engagement, empowerment and community development across Oyo State.
