The traditional institution in Oluyole Local Government Area of Oyo State has thrown its weight behind the House of Representatives ambition of the Executive Chairman of the council, Engr. Akeem Olatunji.
This was as they declared that Olatunji’s emergence as the next federal lawmaker representing the constituency in the forthcoming 2027 polls, is already “a sealed deal.”
It was gathered that the endorsement reflects a major boost to Olatunji’s House of Representatives ambition, given the influence of the traditional institution and its enduring role in mobilising grassroots support across communities in Oluyole.
The endorsement was made during a grand convergence of traditional rulers and community leaders held at the Oluyole Multipurpose Hall, New Garage, on Friday, August 31.
The event, attended by monarchs, chiefs, community stakeholders, political leaders, religious figures and supporters from across the local government, was convened to publicly affirm the traditional council’s confidence in Olatunji’s leadership and capacity to represent the people at the National Assembly.
Speaking on behalf of the traditional institution, Chief Kabiru Olajide, Baale Oleyo, commended Olatunji for what they described as his exemplary leadership, grassroots-oriented governance and remarkable developmental strides since assuming office as Executive Chairman of Oluyole Local Government.
According to them, his achievements in infrastructure development, community engagement, youth empowerment, security support and welfare initiatives have earned him the trust and admiration of the people, making him the most suitable candidate to represent the constituency in the House of Representatives.
The monarchs noted that Olatunji has consistently demonstrated humility, accessibility and a genuine commitment to the welfare of the people, qualities they said distinguish him as a worthy ambassador of Oluyole.
They maintained that their endorsement transcends partisan politics, stressing that it reflects the collective desire of traditional leaders to support a candidate with a proven track record of service delivery and effective leadership.
“Our decision is based on performance, competence and the overwhelming acceptance he enjoys among the people.
“We are convinced that Engr. Akeem Olatunji possesses the experience, vision and capacity to attract greater development to Oluyole at the federal level,” one of the traditional rulers stated.
The council further urged residents of the constituency, political stakeholders and eligible voters to rally behind Olatunji’s aspiration, expressing confidence that his election would bring increased dividends of democracy and quality representation to the people.
Responding to the endorsement, Olatunji expressed profound appreciation to the traditional institution for the confidence reposed in him, describing the gesture as both humbling and motivating.
He pledged not to betray the trust of the royal fathers and the people of Oluyole, assuring them that he would continue to prioritize inclusive development, good governance and people-oriented policies.
The council chairman reaffirmed his commitment to sustaining the developmental momentum already being witnessed across the local government while promising to provide effective representation, facilitate impactful constituency projects and champion legislation that would improve the socio-economic well-being of the people if elected into the House of Representatives.
He also called on residents to remain united and continue supporting initiatives targeted at promoting peace, progress and sustainable development in Oluyole Local Government.
