Properties worth millions of naira have been destroyed as a result of fire that ravaged a mobile phones shop in Ibadan.
The incident occurred at the Mokola area.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Fire Service Reform/Agency Chairman, Hon Maroof Adebayo Akinwande confirmed the incident.
He said that no life was lost in the incident, added that the fire was caused by the explosion of a mobile phone battery, which ignited nearby combustible materials.
According to him, “Upon arrival, it was discovered that the second shop located on the upper floor of the commercial building was engulfed in flames, with thick smoke billowing from the premises.
“The firefighters swiftly contained and extinguished the fire, preventing it from spreading to adjoining shops and nearby properties. A preliminary fire investigation revealed that the fire was caused by the explosion of a mobile phone battery, which ignited nearby combustible materials.

“No casualty was recorded during the incident. The firefighting appliance returned safely to the station at 22:58 hours and resumed operational standby.
“The Oyo State Fire Services Agency highly commends the officers and men of the Nigerian Police Force, Mokola Divisional Headquarters, for providing adequate security coverage throughout the operation”.
Similarly, The state fire service responded to a distress call about a residential building on fire at No. 4, Oke Street, Afo Quarters, Elewure, off Akala Express Road, Ibadan.
The fire incident was caused by unattended cooking gas appliances bursting into flames.
No casualty was recorded as a room within the private residential building comprising a five (5) bedroom flat was engulfed in flames, with thick smoke billowing from the affected room.
Fire personnel led by CFS Adekola (Mrs.), promptly deployed to the scene.

Firefighters quickly contained and extinguished the fire, preventing its spread to the building and nearby properties.
However, residents applauded the Oyo State Governor Engr ‘Seyi Makinde for providing state-of-the-art equipment to the State fire service in responding to emergencies.
Akinwande equally urged members of the public to remain conscious of fire safety at all times. He also emphasized the importance of installing fire extinguisher in every building to enable prompt control of fire outbreaks at the incipient stage.
