The Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, on Tuesday met with representatives of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Nigeria Union of Teachers and Nigeria Labour Congress following a protest staged at the Oyo State Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan, over the recent abduction of pupils and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area.

The protest leaders had converged on the Secretariat to express concerns about the security situation in the state and demand urgent action towards securing the release of the kidnapped victims.

Addressing the delegation, Governor Makinde said he had carefully listened to their concerns and assured them that efforts were ongoing to secure the safe return of the abducted children and teachers.

According to the governor, the Federal, State and Local Government authorities are working collaboratively with security agencies to ensure that the victims are rescued unharmed.

Makinde reiterated his administration’s commitment to the protection of lives and property, stressing that the safety and well-being of residents remain a top priority of his government.

He also assured the protesters that the government remains open to constructive feedback and suggestions aimed at strengthening security across Oyo State.

The governor urged residents to remain calm and continue to support security agencies with credible information that could assist ongoing efforts to bring the abductees home safely.

The meeting ended with renewed assurances from the state government that all necessary measures are being taken to address the situation and enhance security across the state.
