Early Morning fire has ravaged local canteen shops in Ibadan, destroying properties worth millions of naira.

Heritage Echo gathered that the incident occurred at Akorede Street, Opposite the Polytechnic, Sango, Ibadan

No casualty was recorded as the inferno destroyed the canteen and part of the building.

Chairman of Oyo State Fire Service Reform, Hon. Moroof Adebayo Akinwande confirmed the incident in a statement released and made available to newsmen.

He said, “The fire incident was reported at exactly 00:57 hrs on Tuesday 23rd September,2025 through a telephone call, and Mr Azeez to a house on fire at the above address.

“The Agency’s Officers led by CFS Olayiwola Tunde quickly deployed to the scene of the incident. Upon arrival, it was a shop made of planks used as a canteen, and an abandoned building engulfed by fire.

“Our officers swiftly swung into action and restricted the fire from spreading to the whole building and other nearby properties.

“No casualty was recorded and the fire destroyed the canteen and part of the building. The Agency was able to save properties worth millions of naira and the fire incident was a result of the appliance not being switched off and unplugged before leaving the canteen.

The presence of policemen from the Sango Division was recognized for fire cover during the operation.

Akinwande however, advised the public to be conscious of fire and emphasized the importance of having fire-fighting extinguishers in their respective buildings.

He also urged them to always switch off and unplug all electrical appliances when not in use, to avert imminent fire incidents.
