Hon. Lanre Sarumi, Other PDP Aspirants Unite Behind Oyekunle as August 16 Bye-Election Nears

In a decisive show of unity, all aspirants of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for the August 16 Ibadan North Federal Constituency bye-election have thrown their support behind the party’s candidate, Hon. Folajimi Oyekunle.

The move, hailed as a testament to Governor Seyi Makinde’s leadership, signals the party’s determination to present a united front against the opposition.

Among the notable figures backing Oyekunle is Hon. Lanre Sarumi, the PDP’s candidate in the last general election and a strong favourite for the ticket before the consensus. Despite not emerging as the flagbearer—and without any compensatory appointment—Sarumi has demonstrated remarkable sportsmanship by fully endorsing the party’s choice.

Speaking on a live radio programme hosted by Mayor Issic Brown on Tuesday, alongside fellow aspirants Hon. Adeyinka Bibire, Hon. Adeniyi Biro, Hon. Awoleye Dada, Hon. Taiwo Salami, Hon. Matthew Oyeniyi, and Hon. Kabiru Salami, Sarumi urged voters to turn out en masse for the PDP.

He called on constituents to safeguard the progress made under Governor Makinde’s administration.

“We must not allow the excellent work of Engr. Seyi Makinde to be ridiculed,” Sarumi said.

Political observers believe this rare display of unity could give the PDP a decisive advantage in the upcoming poll.
