In commemoration of his first 100 days in office as Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Professor Kehinde Dahud Shangodoyin has listed his achievements, while thanking Oyo State governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, for providing him the platform to serve the people.

Recall that Governor Makinde, in a cabinet reshuffle, had moved Professor Shangodoyin from the Ministry of Public Works and Transport to the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources on May 5, 2025.

In a statement he signed on Tuesday, Shangodoyin said, “As I mark my first 100 days in office as Honourable Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, I am pleased to present the progress made under our stewardship.

These achievements reflect our unwavering commitment to advancing energy access, infrastructure development, and regulatory reform in line with the vision of His Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde, to build a sustainable and inclusive energy future for Oyo State.”

The commissioner noted that in a bid to enhancing public safety, stimulating nighttime economic activities and improving the aesthetics of the urban landscape, his ministry has completed the high mast floodlight installations at Onipepeye and Circular Road Bridges 1 and 6.

Providing the breakdown, Shangodoyin stated that on Bridge 1, 18 high mast floodlights powered by a 90KW Solar Farm, backed up with a 60kVA diesel generator, have been installed.

Similarly, on Bridge 6, 19 high mast floodlights with a 100kW Solar Farm, supported by a 60kVA diesel generator, have been put in place.

He added that at the Onipepeye Interchange, six high mast floodlights, powered by a 60kW Solar Farm, have been installed with a 60kVA diesel generator serving as a temporary backup.

According to him, “An additional 3km of solar-powered street lighting has been completed in the last 100 days at Alalubosa GRA, Aerodrome GRA, Inner City Roads, and other locations, bringing the total coverage under this initiative to 45km.”

With respect to Operation and Maintenance Framework, Shangodoyin said a comprehensive Operations and Maintenance (O&M) framework is currently being finalized to ensure long-term efficiency and reliability of all installations.

The commissioner added that “In response to the Electricity Act and the transfer of regulatory responsibilities to sub-national entities, the Ministry has taken strategic steps toward establishing a functional electricity market for Oyo State.

“A draft version of the Oyo State Electricity Bill is now ready and will soon be presented for broad stakeholder consultation to ensure inclusivity, accountability, and regulatory excellence.

“Our legal and technical advisors have submitted a comprehensive report outlining the regulatory and institutional frameworks required to operationalize the Oyo State Electricity Market. This serves as a foundation for future reforms and implementation strategies.”

According to the commissioner, “These milestones within our first 100 days reaffirm the Ministry’s determination to build a resilient, efficient, and people-centered energy ecosystem for Oyo State. As we look ahead, we remain committed to transparent governance, innovation, stakeholder collaboration, and measurable impact.

“We extend our deep appreciation to His Excellency, Engr. Seyi Makinde, our development partners, dedicated technical teams, and the good people of Oyo State for their continued support.”
