Barr. Akeem Agbaje, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and two-term governorship aspirant in Oyo State, has felicitated with Nigerians on the occasion of Democracy Day, marking 26 years of unbroken democratic governance in the country.

In a statement, Barr. Agbaje described June 12 day as a powerful reminder of Nigeria’s long and arduous journey toward justice, equity, and the rule of law.

“June 12 is not just a date on our national calendar. It symbolises the collective struggle of our people for justice, democratic ideals, and the affirmation of the people’s voice as the cornerstone of governance.”

He paid tribute to the heroes and heroines of Nigeria’s democratic history, particularly those who laid down their lives and sacrificed personal comfort in the quest for a free and fair political system. According to him, the sacrifices of past leaders must continue to guide the nation’s path toward unity, progress, and responsible governance.

The legal luminary noted that 26 years of uninterrupted democracy is a milestone that deserves celebration and sober reflection, adding that while progress has been made, there is still work to be done in consolidating democratic values.

“As we mark this year’s Democracy Day, I urge all Nigerians to set aside personal and political differences and work together towards the common goal of building a peaceful, prosperous, and truly democratic nation.”

He also called on citizens to continue supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which he described as a bold attempt to lay sustainable foundations for good governance and economic transformation through reforms and people-centered policies.

“Let us ensure that the labour of our democratic heroes and heroines shall not be in vain. Together, with unity and a shared sense of purpose, we can fulfill the vision of a Nigeria that works for all.”
