As Nigeria marks 26 years of uninterrupted democratic governance, the Executive Chairman of Ibadan North Local Government, Hon. Oluwaseun Olufade, has joined Nigerians in celebrating Democracy Day with a strong call for unity, accountability, and citizen engagement.

In a message released through his head of media, Aderibigbe Yisahu to commemorate the historic June 12 anniversary, Hon. Olufade paid glowing tribute to the late Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale (MKO) Abiola, describing him as “a beacon of hope and courage in Nigeria’s democratic journey.”

“The events of June 12, 1993, and the sacrifices of countless patriots remind us that democracy is not just a system of government, but a commitment to the voice and will of the people,” Olufade stated.

Speaking from Ibadan, the chairman emphasized the significance of the day as a time for reflection and recommitment to the ideals of justice, freedom, and people-centered leadership.

He pledged his administration’s continued efforts toward building an inclusive, transparent, and responsive local government that works for all residents of Ibadan North.

“Our local government continues to thrive because of your trust, your voice, and your active participation in shaping our future.

Today, as we mark this national milestone, we must rededicate ourselves to the values that sustain our democracy,” he said.

Hon. Olufade also extended goodwill to the executive Governor of Oyo state, his excellency engineer Seyi Makinde, and all tiers of government, commending their commitment to safeguarding the country’s democratic institutions.

Concluding his message, the Ibadan North Chairman urged citizens to remain peaceful, law-abiding, and optimistic about the future of Nigeria.

“Long live Ibadan North, long live Oyo state, Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria!” he declared.
