The Maiden Iseyin Youth Summit was a groundbreaking success, marking a new chapter for youth engagement and political participation in the Oke-Ogun region of the State.

The long week event came to a close on Thursday with the Chairman of the Oyo State Agency for Youth Development, Hon. Adebowale Adebayo Falana as the chairman of the occasion, Alhaji Omokunmi Mustapha, the Chief Host, Hon. Micheal Ogunsina, the State Youth leader and acting Publicity Secretary of People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Sen. Gbenga Andrew Babalola, Hon. Bisi Fadiran, Executive Chairman, Iseyin local government and the host of others.

One of the highlights of the summit was the massive defection of thousands of youths to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Iseyin led by Oloyede Yusuff. This development is seen as a significant boost to the party’s presence in the region.

The Iseyin Youth Summit provided a platform for youths to engage with party leaders and discuss issues affecting their community. The event was seen as a celebration of youth empowerment and a call to action for young people to take an active role in shaping their future.

While delivering his speech, the Oyo Agency for Youth Chairman, Hon. Adebowale Adebayo Falana, applauded the Iseyin youth summit, led by Hon. Hammed Olabisi stressing that the summit is a testament to Governor Makinde’s commitment to empowering youth and providing them with opportunities for growth and development.

According to him, Governor Makinde’s commitment to youth empowerment is further evident in his support for young politicians and their appointment to key positions. This demonstrates the active subscription to the not-too-young-to-rule Bill by creating opportunities for young people to contribute to the development of Oyo State by giving them key roles and helping to build their capacity for future leadership and relevance.

“Our administration recognizes the critical role that Youths play in shaping the future of our dear State and nation. That’s why we’ve invested heavily in initiatives that promote youth development, education, and entrepreneurship” Adebowale affirmed.

He further urged the Iseyin youth to be united, focus on membership drive, strive for progress, preach the good work of the Pride of Southwest Politics, Governor Makinde, and seize the opportunity to network, learn from each other, and share ideas and perspectives, noting that the future of Oyo state belongs to them and is committed to supporting them every step of the way.

In his remarks, the Chief host, who doubles as the Youth leader of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and acting Publicity Secretary, Hon. Micheal Ogunsina, charged the youth to be focused, stressing that PDP is the only prominent political party in Oyo State, alongside other parties.

He, however, commended the effort of party leaders and stakeholders in Oke-Ogun towards promoting and standing firmly with the youth constituency in shaping the image of the party. He expressed confidence that the party has been working to initiate more results-oriented policies to benefit young people to support the legacy of His Excellency Engr Seyi Makinde.

Ogunsina urged the summit committee not to relent in their effort to promote young people, claiming the move is seen as a deliberate effort to empower the youth and build the next generation of leaders, as the theme of the summit implies the role of youths in rebuilding PDP from National to the grassroots.

With the success of the maiden summit, the Iseyin Youth is poised to become a major force in the region’s politics. As thousands of youths join the PDP, the party’s influence in Iseyin and Oke-Ogun as a whole is expected to grow, paving the way for a new era of youth-led development and progress.

“We’re working hard to ensure PDP Win in Oyo State in 2027,” he said.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Chairman Iseyin Youth Summit Planning Committee, Hon. Hammed Olabisi, acknowledged that the summit is an opportunity to reflect on the importance of unity within the party. The PDP has always been a party for the people, and the youth are its lifeblood.

To the youth, you’re not only the leaders of tomorrow but the change-makers of today; your presence here symbolizes hope and the promise of a brighter future. As we welcome new members into our fold today, let us remember that our strength lies in our unity and shared commitment to the values of justice, equity, and progress. The rally was planned as a reminder of our collective power and the importance of standing together as one.

He urged the youth to take full advantage of the summit, engage actively in the discussion, dream big, stay united, and be committed to the ideals of this great party and together, we can build a society where every young person has the opportunity to thrive.

Other Eminent Personalities grace the event include; Hon. Muftau Osuolale Abilawon (former Council Chairman), Hon. Biodun Olasupo, former House of Rep Member, Alhaji Hon.
