As part of strategic efforts geared towards urban development and technological advancement, the executive chairman of Oluyole local government, Akeem Olatunji, has flagged off Ibadan Smart City project.

The event, held at the Oluyole Free Trade Zone, was graced by notable dignitaries, including the Special Guest of Honor, the Honourable Commissioner for Commerce, Trade and Investment, Hon. Adeniyi Adebisi, the Executive Chairman of Oyo State Housing Corporation, Hon. Demola Omotoso.

Other dignitaries present include the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Lands and Housing, Mrs. Foluke Adeniyi, and the President of the Central Council of Ibadan Indigene, Chief Ajeniyi Ajewole, alongside Ibadan High Chiefs, Mogajis, Baales, and other esteemed guests.

According to Olatunji, the Ibadan Smart City project, described as a groundbreaking initiative, is envisioned to be a mixed-use, net-zero digital community.

The project aims to integrate light industrial, commercial, research and development, innovation hubs, tertiary healthcare facilities, residential areas, hotels, green parks, a renewable energy plant, transport and logistics hubs, urban agro-resorts, and recreational spaces.

The project spans approximately 555.22 hectares of land within the Oluyole Free Trade Zone.

Olatunji said the project is designed to transform abandoned quarry sites and adjacent lands into an eco-friendly habitat.

Reflecting on Governor Seyi Makinde’s commitment to creating a conducive environment for businesses to thrive in Oyo State, Olatunji said, the project, when completed, will be a game changer in terms of real estate development.

Olatunji further highlighted the project’s potential to promote economic growth and attract huge investments to the local government and by extension, the state at large.

“This project exemplifies the progressive vision of my leader, father, and political mentor, His Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde.

“The conducive business environment established by the governor is now yielding transformative initiatives like this, and we have no other choice than to fully key into such vision and run with it.

“The Smart City when completed, is expected to become a hub for innovation and sustainability which offer immense opportunities for investors.

“The project’s focus on renewable energy, urban greenery, and eco-friendly design reinforces the commitment of the present administration in Oluyole local government and Oyo state to creating a sustainable future for our people.” Olatunji said.

Speaking further, the Oluyole LG boss said, “This investment in Ibadan Smart City is not just about infrastructure but also about creating a prosperous future for the people of Oyo State. It promises high returns and sustainable growth.”
