Just In: Makinde Swears In 33 New Elected Chairmen, Urges Them To Uphold Rule of Law

The executive governor of Oyo state has sworn in the 33 chairmen in Oyo state and charged them to replicate good governance at the grassroots, declaring that there must be no room for excuses to deliver on their mandates and must uphold the principles of rule of law

According to Westernmirror.com.ng reports, the swearing in ceremony held today, May 24 at the House of Chiefs, Oyo state parliamentary complex, Agodi secretariat, Ibadan.

The Deputy Governor, Barrister Adebayo Lawal, who represented the Governor at the ceremony congratulated the newly sworn in executive chairmen and vice chairmen.

The Chief Judge of Oyo state, Justice Iyabo Yerima administered the oath of office and oath of allegiance to the chairmen and vice chairmen-elect.

Governor Makinde reaffirmed his resolve and administration’s commitment to adequate democratic practice with the aim of entrenching democacy and delivery of good governance.

The governor also urged the new executive chairmen to be mindful of the welfare and well-being of the people at their various local government areas.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Commissioner for local government and chieftancy matters, Hon. Olusegun Olayiwola congratulated the new chairmen and vice chairmen for their victory at the last council poll in the state.

He described the election as a significant point in the democratic history of the state which further affirmed the Makinde led administration’s commitment to fairness, transparency, and accountability.

The Commissioner said: “The just concluded Local Government election marked a significant point in our democratic journey, thus affirming our commitment to fairness, transparency and above ail accountalbility.

“It is also a testimonial for this administration’s commitment to good governance and adherence to the Rule of law. May l also extend my congratulations to all the newly elected Chairmen and Vice- Chairmen whose victory at the polls attested to the fact that you are all impeccable grassroot mobilizers.

“Your dedication, unwavering beief in your abilities to bring about the desired development at the grassroot led to your emergence as Chairmern and Vice-Chairmen respectively. I have no doubt that you will meet the expectations of the people of Oyo State.

“As you embark on this noble responsibility, I urge you to work hand in hand with your respective executives, utilizing their expertise and fostering collaboration to ensure that the dividends of democracy reach every nooks and crannies of your respective
Local Governments.

“It is the dawn of a new chapter, you are urged to work assiduously with unwavering commitment to building a more virile LOcal Government devoid of acrimony or rancor towards building a better future for all citizens of the Pacesetter’s State.”
