The House of Representatives candidate for Oyo Federal Constituency under the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Hon. Nurudeen Temilolu Ashamu, popularly known as TNA, has reiterated the role of sports in fostering unity and social cohesion following the successful viewing of the UEFA Champions League final across the constituency.
As part of efforts to promote youth engagement and community interaction, TNA sponsored 2,560 seats across 26 viewing centres in Afijio, Atiba, Oyo East, and Oyo West Local Government Areas, providing football enthusiasts with a conducive atmosphere to watch the prestigious European club football final held on Saturday.
The highly anticipated final encounter between Arsenal vs PSG, saw Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) emerge victorious to claim the UEFA Champions League title, thrilling football fans around the world and drawing large gatherings of supporters across Oyo Federal Constituency.

Speaking after the event, Ashamu noted that while football supporters naturally align with different clubs and teams, the sport remains a strong force for bringing people together and strengthening bonds within communities.

According to him, the initiative aimed to create opportunities for young people and football enthusiasts to connect, interact, and experience the excitement of the game in a peaceful and friendly environment.

“Football has a unique ability to unite people irrespective of their backgrounds, beliefs, or affiliations. It was heartwarming to see residents across our communities come together to share in the excitement of the Champions League final,” he said.
A passionate Arsenal supporter, TNA acknowledged that the outcome of the European football season did not favour his club but expressed pride in Arsenal’s performance and competitiveness throughout the campaign.
He further emphasized that beyond entertainment, football teaches valuable lessons in teamwork, resilience, discipline, patience, and healthy competition.
“These are qualities that are essential not only in sports but also in leadership, community development, and nation-building.
Football reminds us that we can achieve more when we work together towards a common goal,” he added.
Ashamu thanked residents, football fans, and youth groups across the four local government areas for embracing the initiative and maintaining a peaceful atmosphere throughout the viewing events.
He reaffirmed his commitment to programmes that promote youth development, social inclusion, and community advancement across Oyo Federal Constituency.
He concluded by wishing the people of the constituency continued peace, progress, and prosperity, saying, “Alubarika fún gbogbo wa.”
