Oyo 2027: I Hear You, My People, I Will Be Home Soon —Dr. Adewale Kolapo Kareem (AKK)

My journey as an adult and a professional in my field of expertise has been shaped by many factors that have guided my steps and decisions. From my early years in Foko, Ibadan, to my roles in redefining education through my efforts and strive in public service, one element has consistently set me apart: the structure and divine guidance I have received from my Creator.

This has not been a matter of chance but a steady hand that has directed me through challenges, helping me to think clearly and act with purpose. It is this guidance that has allowed me to build relationships, pursue knowledge, and commit to causes that matter, always with a sense of responsibility to those around me.

Upon my reflections on this path, I see how it has prepared me for the road ahead, a road that calls for the same steady focus and faith.

When I became more aware of the realities facing our people – the low level of good governance that has layered Oyo State in recent times – I couldn’t ignore the need for change. I just couldn’t. I began to think strategically about what could be done and, more importantly, how it could be achieved. To bring about anything substantial and meaningful, a lot of realistic mapping out must be put into place, with clear plans that account for the state’s unique needs and resources.

This isn’t about quick fixes but about building systems that will endure decades and generations, drawing from lessons learned in my own experiences and the stories I’ve heard from the good people of Oyo state and its residents. It is this deliberate approach that drives my aspiration to lead, as well ensure that every step is measured, calculated, and aimed at delivering real improvements for our people.

I receive all the comments from you good people who seem worried about when I will begin to engage more directly with our people in Oyo State, the very place I want to lead. I know those messages come from a place of love and genuine concern, which I appreciate beyond words. It is unimaginable that I will take that with little concern, so I say to everyone again that I am coming home soon.

Politics is local, and it must be handled with the care it deserves, but to birth something historic like the change we’re planning, it requires a lot of strategy and clarity of purpose. My current engagements abroad are part of that preparation, but I hear you loud and clear, and my heart is with you in Oyo State as we move forward.

One of the reasons I have started my engagements in the diaspora is to have them critique what I say I want to achieve at home. These are Nigerians and Oyo State indigenes living abroad who love their homeland and have seen how advanced democracy and good governance operate in practice.

They can relate to the story and offer advice that fits our various realities while feeling committed to support it because they want the same for their home country. It will be a consistent assignment that goes on until we see our results, we will keep building a network of ideas and backing that strengthens our efforts in Oyo State.

Please be aware that this step is deliberate, it is to ensure that when I return, the vision is refined and backed by a broader base.

I hear everyone loud and clear. And I wish to also state that I have been, before now, tacitly engaging the political heavyweights in Oyo State. But by December and January 2026, I’ll be home to speak more directly with Oyo State people across the five political zones in our state and, of course, all the 33 local governments in Oyo State.

In addition, AKK Town Hall meeting, Book Launch and Fundraising, Oyo State Edition has been scheduled for January, 2026. This is a project I am strongly committed to, and I won’t tire of sharing it in every corner and nook of the state. I am coming home, soonest.

It is equally integral and sensitive to state that part of the focus of coming home is to present my book to all the first-class kings and traditional rulers in Oyo State, starting from the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Alaafin of Oyo, Soun of Ogbomoso, Okere of Saki, and all other traditional rulers across the state.

In my previous writings, I have, beyond emphasis, stated how important the traditional institution is to the growth and development of any state, how their wisdom, experiences, local grounding and native intelligence is important, and I am not taking any chances to accord them with the honour and dignity they deserve.

This is our collective project, my people. See you soonest.
