Oluyole LG Intensifies Rural Electrification Projects, Distributes Solar Systems to Over 30 Communities

The Oluyole Local Government Council in Oyo State has intensified its rural electrification drive with the distribution of solar street-light systems to more than 30 communities across the council area.

The distribution according to the local government, is part of the council’s broader commitment to rural development and the provision of infrastructure capable of addressing the immediate needs of communities across Oluyole.

The distribution exercise, which took place on Monday at the Local Government Council Secretariat, Idi-Ayunre, saw several communities and security agencies receive solar lighting equipment for installation in their respective areas.

The initiative is aimed at improving access to street lighting in rural communities, strengthening security, and creating a safer environment for residents across Oluyole Local Government.

Among the communities that benefited from the distribution were Ifelodun Zone 2, Mosadoluwa, Aba Epo Zone 2, Irewole Tella, Araromi Community, Ayedaade Agric General, Sokelu Community and Ifelodun-Olokuta, among others.

The council also extended the initiative to local security outfits by providing solar lighting tools to support their operations and improve visibility within communities.

The security beneficiaries included the Vigilante Group, Agbekoya, and the Oyo State Security Network Agency codenamed Amotekun.

Speaking during the distribution exercise, the executive chairman of the council, Engr. Akeem Olatunji, said the initiative formed part of ongoing efforts to extend basic infrastructure and improve the quality of life of residents, particularly those in rural and underserved communities.

The provision of solar-powered street lighting is expected to illuminate previously dark areas, enhance night-time visibility and complement existing security measures by making it easier for residents and security personnel to monitor their surroundings.

Olatunji said the project would also contribute to safer commercial and social activities at night, while reducing dependence on conventional electricity supply for street lighting.

Residents of the beneficiary communities are expected to work with relevant council authorities to ensure the proper installation and maintenance of the solar systems for sustained impact.
