Ib’North re-election: Oyo APC Guber Aspirant Dr AKK Reacts to Loss

A week has now passed since our great party lost the rerun election of Ibadan North Federal Constituency in Oyo state. That is the beauty of democracy. We win some and lose some. What matters most is being magnanimous in both situations. I wish to extend my heartfelt gratitude to all APC stalwarts and foot soldiers who poured their energy and dedication into the recent efforts for our party in the Ibadan North Federal Constituency election. Your struggles, late-night strategising, and commitment amidst challenging circumstances reflect a progressive spirit that defines the essence of our movement – it is a quality that has long sustained our presence across Oyo State and beyond. I particularly commend Hon. Adewale Olatunji Murphy for his maturity and statesmanlike demeanour throughout and after this contest. We definitely must continue to advance the aspirations of the APC collectively, I wish him continued success and strength, trusting that this will remain a cornerstone as we rebuild and realign our efforts for future victories.

Numerous reflections and reviews have emerged in the wake of our loss at the poll last week, with various analyses offered on the reasons behind this outcome, and I wish to affirm that such expressions are very valid and essential. These diverse perspectives, rooted in the spirit of equality and freedom of thought, fortify the democratic institutions that underpin our party and nation. It provides a platform for more constructive dialogue within our party. I equally concur that such candid concerns and evaluations open avenues to address issues from multiple angles. Among other things, it further advances a ground where lessons can be drawn and have our strategies refined. This openness is a strength that should enable us to adapt and emerge more resilient as we prepare for the challenges ahead.

I offer significant credit to the leadership of the APC and its numerous stakeholders for maintaining the party’s solidity and firmness during this period of trial. Now, however, the imperative is to deepen our devotion to unity and cohesion, and that is a process that must begin with genuine reconciliation among party members who harbour grievances stemming from diverse causes. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is on lead call to this endeavour. Every individual within our fold is indispensable, and we cannot afford to see valued members drift toward opposition due to feelings of discontent or disagreement with past decisions. I advocate for a concerted effort to bring all voices to the forefront of our discussions, to address each concern with diligence, and to ensure no one is left behind, thereby preserving the integrity and strength of our collective.

This reconciliation must transcend sectional interests. Quite frankly, it must reject the notion that only a select few warrant inclusion in our deliberations. The time for political manoeuvring is past; this matter is too grave to be tainted by gamesmanship, particularly regarding the 2027 gubernatorial ticket or similar ambitions. I propose that we unite in love and solidarity, postponing such considerations to a later date, as they must not undermine the broader effort to heal and strengthen our party. The foundational principle of equality among all members, a pillar that has guided the APC since its inception, demands that we cherish and uphold it, and see to it that no condition or variable jeopardises the unity of our ranks at the expense of any individual.

Achieving a united front in a complex political scene like Nigeria is an endeavour that defies simplicity, but requires a deliberate synthesis of intellectual rigour, philosophical clarity, and pragmatic resolve to navigate the knots of human ambition and societal expectation. It also calls for a disciplined commitment to collective purposes. Here, the pursuit of harmony supersedes personal gain, and the wisdom of diverse experiences is harnessed to build a resilient whole.

I wish to assure all party faithful that my intellectual, academic, and technocratic expertise and resources will remain fully committed to the service of the APC whenever the need arises. I will stand ready and steady to support our journey toward renewed strength and victories. In times of trials and triumph, APC is our party, and we must all see it as such – no ifs or buts. Thank you.

Yours progressively,
Dr. Adewale Kolapo Kareem (AKK)
Oyo APC Gubernatorial Aspirant
APC, PROGRESS!
