The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) House of Representatives candidate for Oyo Federal Constituency, Hon. Afolabi Idris Olanrewaju, popularly known as Aloma, alongside the party’s senatorial candidate, has embarked on grassroots infrastructure interventions, including the grading of local roads and the repair of a borehole facility to address some of the challenges confronting residents in their communities.

The interventions, which include the grading of the road linking Farm Settlement to Dijo Village and the rehabilitation of a borehole at Akeetan Baale, Ward 1, in Oyo West Local Government Area, are aimed at improving rural accessibility and access to water for residents.

The road-grading exercise is expected to ease movement along the affected route, particularly for farmers, traders, commuters, and other residents who depend on the road for their daily activities. Rural roads play a vital role in connecting farming communities to markets, facilitating the transportation of agricultural produce and improving access to essential services.

For residents of Farm Settlement and Dijo Village, the intervention could help reduce transportation difficulties and make movement between the communities more convenient, particularly during periods when poor road conditions impede the movement of people and goods.

Similarly, the repair of the borehole facility at Akeetan Baale is intended to restore access to a source of water for residents of the area. Access to functional water facilities remains an important community need, as reliable water supplies contribute to household welfare, sanitation, and public health.

The intervention at Akeetan Baale also underscores the importance of maintaining existing community infrastructure. Repairing a damaged water facility can help residents regain access to a familiar source of water and reduce the difficulties associated with sourcing water from alternative locations.
The projects come as the PDP candidates seek to demonstrate their engagement with grassroots communities ahead of the 2027 general elections. By undertaking the interventions, the candidates have placed attention on practical community needs, including rural road accessibility and the availability of basic amenities.
However, residents’ long-term benefits will depend on the quality of the work, the durability of the repairs and the continued maintenance of the facilities. Sustainable infrastructure development requires not only the execution of projects but also measures to ensure that they remain functional and serve the intended communities over time.

For Aloma, the road-grading exercise and borehole repair represent local interventions in areas directly connected to residents’ everyday lives. The initiatives also highlight the importance of identifying community needs and pursuing practical responses that can improve living conditions.
As political activities gradually gather momentum ahead of the 2027 elections, such community-level interventions are likely to remain part of the engagement between political candidates and residents. Voters will, in turn, have the opportunity to assess candidates based on their activities, commitments, policy proposals, and plans for addressing the broader developmental challenges facing Oyo Federal Constituency and Oyo State.
The interventions in Farm Settlement, Dijo Village and Akeetan Baale therefore bring attention to two important grassroots priorities: accessible rural roads and functional water facilities. Their lasting significance will ultimately be measured by the extent to which they improve residents’ daily lives and how effectively the facilities are maintained for continued community use.
