Hon. Toheeb Adegoke ADLAT, the APM candidate for Akinyele/Lagelu Federal Constituency, has said his dissatisfaction with the quality of representation in the constituency is one of the major factors that prompted his decision to contest for the House of Representatives.

ADLAT stated this during an interview with Isaac Mayor, where he spoke about his background, leadership experience and motivation for seeking elective office. He said his professional background in engineering, combined with his experience in problem-solving, financial management and people management, had prepared him for the responsibilities associated with public leadership.

“The kind of representatives we have been having in Akinyele/Lagelu is lower, which is one of my driving factors to come out,” ADLAT said, explaining that his decision was motivated by his desire to offer what he considers a different approach to representation.

ADLAT also expressed his readiness for the forthcoming contest, saying his decision to enter the race was driven by a conviction that Akinyele/Lagelu deserves a new voice and a different approach to legislative representation. He said he is prepared to present his ideas, experience and vision to the electorate and allow the people to decide.

Beyond his professional experience, ADLAT highlighted the importance of youth participation in governance and decision-making. He argued that younger people should not merely observe political developments or limit their participation to social media advocacy, but should also be involved in decisions that directly affect their future.

“Younger people should be involved in any decision that affects them. We should not be advocating only online,” he said.

He explained that meaningful youth participation requires moving beyond online conversations and becoming actively involved in the processes of leadership, representation and decision-making.

ADLAT further said his ambition is not simply about occupying a seat at the National Assembly, but about bringing his experience, ideas and problem-solving approach to the process of representation.

His comments have added a new dimension to the emerging political conversation in Akinyele/Lagelu, particularly around the quality of representation, youth participation and the kind of leadership constituents expect in the next electoral cycle.
