The lawmaker representing Ibadan North-East/Ibadan South-East Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Abass Adigun Agboworin, has commended Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, for renewing the wage award for civil servants and restoring the transportation subsidy.

Governor Makinde had, announced on Friday, that the wage award for state workers would be extended for another three months, while the transportation subsidy introduced to cushion the impact of rising transportation costs would also continue.

Reacting to the development through a statement by his Media Group, Agboworin described the decision as a timely and compassionate intervention, particularly at a period when workers and families are contending with rising living costs.

According to him, the continuation of the wage award and transport support demonstrates that the Makinde administration remains attentive to the economic realities facing workers and is willing to deploy government resources to cushion their burden.

Agboworin said the measures would provide some relief to civil servants, especially in view of the rising cost of transportation and its ripple effects on household expenses.

He said: “The renewal of the wage award and the continuation of the transport subsidy are commendable decisions at this time. They show that Governor Seyi Makinde understands the realities our people are facing and is prepared to take practical steps to ease their burden.

“This is not just about announcing policies; it is about putting measures in place that directly affect the lives of ordinary people. Workers will feel the impact of this intervention in their daily lives.”

The lawmaker further described the governor’s action as evidence of what he called a people-oriented approach to governance.

Agboworin added that Makinde’s approach to governance in Oyo State offered lessons that could be applied at the national level.

He concluded that the governor’s ability to respond to economic pressures with targeted interventions showed that government could make a meaningful difference when the welfare of citizens remained at the centre of policymaking.

He however urged civil servants to reciprocate the gesture by remaining committed to their duties and ensuring efficient service delivery to the people of Oyo State.
