According to news that reached the Heritage Echo newsroom, goods and household items worth millions of naira have been destroyed following a fire incident that destroyed six shops in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
According to the reports, the fire outbreak, which occurred at Oyinkansola Hameed Street, Monatan area of Ibadan, started in the early hours of Monday.
It was learnt that six shops out of 34 shops were affected, but no casualties were recorded.
Also, the Special Adviser to Governor who doubled as the Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service Agency, Moroof Akinwande, confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Monday.
He explained that the fire was reported around 2:20 am and that the suspected cause was an electrical surge.
He said; “Upon arrival, the crew discovered that six (6) out of thirty-four (34) lock-up shops had been affected by the fire.
“The firefighters immediately commenced firefighting operations and successfully brought the fire under control, preventing it from spreading to the remaining shops and other nearby properties.
“The suspected cause of the fire was an electrical power surge (electricity surge).”
Victims applauded the Governor of Oyo State Engr ‘Seyi Makinde for providing state-of-the-art equipment to the State fire service in response to emergencies.
Akinwande further sensitized the victims on fire safety precautions necessary to curb further occurrence.
