The Oyo State House of Assembly Service Commission has organised a three-day training workshop for officers on Grade Level 07 and above in the Legislative Service, with a charge to participants to strengthen their professional competence and contribute more effectively to the efficiency and institutional growth of the legislature.
The workshop, which held at the Lagos Hall, Ibadan Business School, Bodija, Ibadan, was themed, “Enhancing Capacity for Effective Legislative Service.”
The first two days of the programme were dedicated to officers on Grade Levels 07 to 12, while the final day focused on Management Staff and officers on the Management cadre levels.
The workshop was declared open by the Speaker , Oyo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin who was represented by the Deputy Speaker of the House, Hon. Muhammad Abiodun Fadeyi.
The Chairman of the Oyo State House of Assembly Service Commission, Hon. Femi Julius Okedoyin, in his address at the opening ceremony, said the training was designed to equip officers with the knowledge, skills and professional orientation required to meet the evolving demands of the Legislative Service.
According to him, an effective legislature depended not only on the quality of elected representatives, sound laws and institutional procedures, but also on the competence, professionalism and continuous development of the career officers who provide administrative, procedural, research, technical and institutional support to the House.
Hon. Okedoyin noted that officers on the management and senior grade levels occupied positions of considerable responsibility, stressing that their duties went beyond the routine execution of assigned tasks.
He said such officers were expected to provide leadership, exercise sound judgment, preserve institutional knowledge, mentor junior officers and contribute meaningfully to the attainment of the objectives of the Legislative Service.
The Commission Chairman explained that capacity building remained a major component of the Commission’s staff development policy, adding that the latest programme was part of a continuing effort to strengthen the professional capacity of personnel of the Oyo State House of Assembly.
He recalled that the Commission had earlier organised a two-day training programme for officers in the Sergeant-at-Arms Department on Thursday, July 30 and Friday, July 31, 2026.
Hon. Okedoyin said the current workshop was broader in scope and deliberately targeted officers in the management and senior grade levels because of the specific responsibilities and challenges associated with their cadres.
The Chairman of the Commission expressed appreciation to the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde, for his continuous support for capacity building, staff development and institutional strengthening across the state.
He also appreciated the leadership of the Oyo State House of Assembly under the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, for its continued support for initiatives aimed at strengthening the capacity of the Legislative Service.
The Chairman further commended Superurban Limited for collaborating with the Commission in delivering the training programme.
The four Commissioners of the Oyo State House of Assembly Service Commission were also present at the three-day training programme.
They are Hon. Moses Ojoawo, Commissioner I; Mr. Oladeji Olanrewaju, Commissioner II; Mr. Adekunle Alabanla, Commissioner III; and Hon. Bamidele Ojo, Commissioner IV.
