The Okanlomo Oodua and Gbonka Olubadan of Ibadanland, Chief Jubril Dotun Sanusi, has expressed profound sorrow over the passing of renowned veteran journalist, accomplished author, and Abese Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oloye Lekan Alabi, who died on Saturday at the age of 76.
Chief Sanusi described the late Oloye Lekan Alabi as one of Ibadanland’s finest intellectuals and cultural ambassadors whose remarkable contributions to journalism, public service, and the preservation of Yoruba history and tradition will remain indelible.
According to him, the late media icon devoted decades of his life to promoting the rich cultural heritage of Ibadanland and Oyo State while serving with distinction as Press Secretary to successive governors of Oyo State. His wealth of knowledge, exceptional writing skills, and commitment to truth earned him admiration across Nigeria.
Chief Sanusi said the death of the Abese Olubadan is not only a painful loss to the Olubadan-in-Council but also to the entire people of Ibadanland, Oyo State, the journalism profession, and the Yoruba nation.
He extended his heartfelt condolences to the Olubadan of Ibadanland, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, the Olubadan-in-Council, the immediate family of the deceased, the Nigerian Union of Journalists, the media community, and all associates of the late elder statesman.
“Oloye Lekan Alabi lived an exemplary life defined by integrity, excellence, and unwavering dedication to the service of humanity. His wise counsel, literary works, and immense contributions to the development of Ibadanland will continue to inspire generations yet unborn.
“I pray that Almighty God grants him eternal rest and gives the Olubadan-in-Council, his family, friends, and the entire people of Ibadanland the strength and fortitude to bear this irreparable loss,” Chief Sanusi stated.
