
Properties worth millions of naira have been destroyed following a fire outbreak that engulfed a residential building in Oyo Alaafin township, Oyo State.
The incident occurred on today, Tuesday, 26th May, 2026, at No 11, Agodongbo phase 1, Zone 4, Odedare Street, Folatyre area, Oyo.
Heritage Echo gathered that the fire affected a private resident building of four (4) bedroom flat as a result of electrical sparks from plugged-in appliance.


Confirming the development, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Fire Service Reform and Chairman of the State Fire Services Agency, Hon. Moroof Adebayo Akinwande, said the agency responded promptly after receiving a distress call.

He noted that firefighters were immediately deployed to the scene led by FO II Yisau Opeyemi, where they worked swiftly to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to adjoining structures.

“Upon arrival, we met a master’s bedroom of a private residential building of four (4) bedrooms flat engulfed by Fire.
“Our men quickly swung into action and successfully curtailed the fire, preventing it from spreading to other parts of the building and nearby properties,” he said.
He, however, confirmed that no casualty was recorded in the incident.
He added that the fire incident was as a result of the electrical sparks from plugged-in appliance which ignited to the nearby combustible materials and set it ablaze.
Some residents of the area commended the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, for equipping the state fire service with modern firefighting tools, noting that the prompt response helped avert a more devastating outcome.
Akinwande further advised members of the public to remain vigilant and adopt fire safety measures at all times.
He stressed the importance of installing fire extinguishers in homes and offices, noting that early response at the incipient stage of a fire outbreak can significantly reduce damage.
