2027: Why Oyo Must Consolidate Makinde’s Legacy Through Hon. Bimbo Adekanmbi’s Aspiration

As Oyo State gradually approaches the 2027 political transition, the conversation is no longer just about who leads next, but about how to preserve and strengthen the remarkable progress already achieved. Under the purposeful and people-oriented leadership of Seyi Makinde, the state has witnessed a transformation that has redefined governance and restored public confidence.

From strategic infrastructural development to reforms in education, healthcare, and economic expansion, the Makinde administration has set a standard that resonates across communities. Indeed, as the Yoruba saying goes, “ìṣẹ́ tí a bá fi ọwọ́ ṣe, a kì í fi ẹsẹ̀ tú u”—the work built with care must not be carelessly destroyed.

It is within this context that the growing call for support behind Bimbo Adekanmbi becomes both logical and compelling.

Leadership at this stage requires more than popularity; it demands continuity, competence, and a clear understanding of the foundation already laid. Oyo State has moved beyond the era of experimentation. What is needed now is a steady hand, someone who understands the vision, aligns with the philosophy of inclusive governance, and possesses the capacity to build on existing achievements.

Bimbo Adekanmbi represents that bridge between continuity and progress. His administrative experience, calm disposition, and strategic insight position him as a leader who can sustain the momentum established under Governor Makinde. He embodies the principle that governance should remain focused on results, not rhetoric.

Another timeless Yoruba adage reminds us that “ọmọ tí ó mọ ibi tí a ti ń bọ̀, ló mọ ibi tí a ń lọ”—only one who understands where the journey began can confidently lead the way forward. Adekanmbi’s familiarity with the governance structure and developmental blueprint of the current administration places him in a unique position to consolidate and expand on its successes.

Governor Makinde’s tenure has introduced a governance culture defined by accountability, prudence, and tangible impact. Preserving this culture must be a priority. It is not merely about political succession; it is about safeguarding a system that is working and ensuring that the people of Oyo State continue to benefit from purposeful leadership.

As stakeholders reflect on the future, unity and strategic alignment will be essential. Fragmentation at this critical time could risk reversing the gains made over the years. Instead, there is a need to rally around a candidate who represents stability, continuity, and the promise of sustained development.

In Hon. Bimbo Adekanmbi lies an opportunity to deepen the gains of the present and secure the future of Oyo State. The path forward is clear: to protect what has been built and to move ahead with wisdom.

After all, “a kì í fi ohun rere ṣeré”—one does not toy with what is good.
