Stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State have confirmed Barr. Seun Ashamu as the party’s candidate for the Oyo East/Oyo West/Atiba/Afijio Federal Constituency.

Ashamu who is the Honourable Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning. The decision was reached this evening during an ongoing high-level stakeholders’ meeting of the Oyo Central Senatorial District, held in the presence of Governor Seyi Makinde and other key political leaders across the zone.

Sources at the meeting revealed that the endorsement of Ashamu followed extensive consultations among party leaders, culminating in a unanimous agreement to present him as the consensus candidate for the constituency.

The move, according to insiders, forms part of broader efforts to strengthen internal unity and enhance political coordination within the district ahead of future electoral engagements.

Ashamu, a pioneer Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, also previously served as Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources where he was noted for his contributions to the sustainable development plan of His Excellency Engr ‘Seyi Makinde Omituntun 2.0.

Political observers believe his emergence reflects the confidence reposed in him by party stakeholders, particularly across key areas where he has sustained significant political influence over the years.

The stakeholders’ meeting is part of ongoing strategic consultations by the party leadership aimed at consolidating cohesion and positioning the PDP for upcoming elections.

Further details are expected to emerge as deliberations continue.
