Senator Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli, on Friday formally declared his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election in Oyo State, promising a people-driven administration anchored on inclusive development, security, and economic growth.

The declaration, held at Yemetu Police Barracks in Ibadan, drew a large crowd of political leaders, party faithful, traditional stakeholders, and supporters from across the state.

In his address, Alli said his decision followed extensive consultations with party leaders, traditional rulers, and citizens across all geopolitical zones of the state.

He described the moment as “a turning point” and “a declaration of purpose,” stressing that his ambition was rooted in service rather than personal gain.

“This is not about ambition alone. It is about responsibility, service, and the future and prosperity of the good people of Oyo State,” he said.

The senator, who currently represents Oyo South Senatorial District, outlined his track record in public service, recalling his tenure as the first democratically elected chairman of Ibadan North Local Government in 1991, as well as his roles as Secretary to the State Government and Chief of Staff in previous administrations.

According to him, these experiences shaped his governance philosophy, which he said prioritizes impact, accountability, and grassroots development.

Alli painted a picture of an Oyo State rich in history, culture, and human capital but in need of renewed leadership to unlock its full potential. He emphasized that his administration would focus on key sectors, including education, security, healthcare, infrastructure, and economic empowerment.

On education, he expressed concern over current standards, pledging to reposition the sector to drive innovation and long-term development. “We must plan not just for today, but for generations yet unborn,” he said.

Addressing security, Alli assured residents that his government would prioritize safety, noting that sustainable development could only thrive in a peaceful environment. He added that healthcare would be expanded to ensure equitable access for all citizens, while infrastructure development would focus on connecting rural and urban communities.

The lawmaker also highlighted plans to boost economic activities by empowering traders, artisans, and small business owners, whom he described as the backbone of the state’s economy. He promised to create opportunities for youths through entrepreneurship and digital transformation initiatives.

“We will refocus development to the grassroots and ensure that local governments function effectively with real autonomy,” he said.

Alli further pledged to revitalize agriculture by promoting modern farming techniques and improving access to markets, positioning the sector as a key driver of economic growth.

Speaking on governance, he promised transparency, accountability, and merit-based civil service reforms, assuring workers and pensioners of improved welfare and prompt payment of salaries and entitlements.

He also reaffirmed his commitment to gender inclusion, noting that women would play a central role in his administration, while traditional rulers and community leaders would be actively engaged in governance.

Reflecting on past leaders of the state, Alli paid tribute to former governors and political figures who contributed to Oyo’s development, stating that his goal would be to build on their legacies rather than dismantle them.

He called on residents to see his ambition as a collective journey, urging unity and shared responsibility in shaping the future of the state.

“I offer myself to you not as a master, but as a servant, tested, prepared, and ready to serve,” he said.

The event featured the presence and recognition of several political figures, including former Deputy Governor Chief Iyiola Oladokun, Engr. Remi Oseni, Senator Yinus Akintunde, Senator Ayoade Adeseun among others.
