Properties worth millions of naira have been destroyed by an inferno that razed a residential building in Oyo township and Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

Heritage Echo gathered that the incident occurred simultaneously on Sunday at the Osi-Imole area, Akesan Market, Oyo township.

The fire incident occurred as a result of children playing with matches, which ignited nearby combustible materials setting the room ablaze.

Special Adviser to the Governor in Fire Service Reform/Agency Chairman, Hon. Moroof Adebayo Akinwande confirmed the incident.

He stated that the agency officer, led by FO II Yisau Opeyemi, promptly responded and deployed to the scene of the incident.

“Upon arrival, it was the third room on the left of a private residential building of five (5) rooms engulfed by flames and smoke-logged.

“The fire crew quickly swung into action and the fire was prevented from spreading to the other rooms of the building.

“No casualty was recorded as the fire incident was a result of children playing with matches and ignited the nearby combustible materials setting the room ablaze.

Also, the residential building was ablaze in a fire incident at number 03, Ifesowapo Kobiowu Street, Airport area in Ibadan, Oyo State capital.

The firemen led by ACFS Adisa swiftly mobilized and deployed to the scene of the incident.

Special Adviser to the Governor on Fire Service Reform/Agency Chairman, Hon. Moroof Adebayo Akinwande confirmed the incident in a statement released and made available to Heritage Echo News.

He said, “Upon arrival, we met the visitors’ toilet on the upper floor of a private residential building covered with thick smoke and flames.

“Our officer quickly launched a coordinated attack and restricted the fire from spreading to other parts of the building.

No casualty was recorded as the fire incident was caused by electrical sparks from the solar power system and ignited nearby combustible materials setting the toilet ablaze.

The fire service was able to save properties worth millions of naira.

Residents applauded the State fire service and His Excellency Engr ‘Seyi Makinde for providing state-of-the-art equipment to the State fire service in responding to emergencies.

Akinwande however, urged the residents to always employ the service of a competent technician during the installation of a solar power system.

He emphasized the importance of having functioning fire-fighting extinguishers in every household and commercial building to prevent fire at the incipient stage.
