The Member representing Ibadan South-East/North-East Federal Constituency, Rep. Abass Adigun (Agboworin), has reaffirmed his unwavering loyalty to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), declaring that the party remains strong despite recent defections and internal challenges.

Agboworin, who spoke on the state of the party ahead of the 2027 general elections during an interview on Fresh 105.9FM, on Saturday, described those leaving the party as individuals motivated by selfish interests rather than the collective good of the people.

“I am a beneficiary of the PDP. It is a strong party. Those leaving the party are leaving for selfish interests. It is only a matter of time; we will all see what will happen in the party they are defecting to,” he said.

The lawmaker expressed confidence that the PDP would rebound stronger, stressing that the platform remains viable and well-positioned for future electoral victories.

“Without the PDP, I would not have been where I am today. I contested and won elections twice on the platform of the party. I will always stand for the PDP. And I can say that our leader in the state, governor Makinde, is experienced and brainy enough to guide the affairs of the party. At the same time, we are hopeful that the current situation will be resolved soon,” Agboworin added.

He also threw his weight behind Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, describing him as a political leader who is interested in the progress of the party and the state.

He noted that all political decisions, going forward, would be guided by the party’s collective interest.

On the controversy surrounding the amendment of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Act, Agboworin clarified that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu did not outrightly reject the bill he sponsored, but only made inputs on its financial provisions.

According to him, the National Assembly initially proposed that the Agency should exclude two per cent for their operation, which was the only clause rejected from the bill.

However, the Presidency reviewed it down to one per cent, with the balance to be paid into the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC).

“The Presidency only made inputs. They said one per cent should go to the NDLEA, while the rest should go to FAAC,” he explained.

Agboworin further assured constituents in communities yet to benefit from federal projects that he remains committed to fulfilling his campaign promises and delivering more dividends of democracy across his constituency.
