Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State and 2027 governorship aspirant, Barr. Akeem Adedeji Agbaje, has called on media practitioners and digital activists to wield influence with responsibility, integrity, and purpose in order to fuel positive change in society.

Barr. Agbaje made the call while delivering the keynote address at the Primus Media Conference 4.0, held yesterday, Friday, September 5, at the IACD American Corner, Jericho, Ibadan, Oyo State. The event, themed “Framing Influence, Fueling Change”, brought together key figures in activism, politics, broadcasting, and journalism.

In his address, Agbaje commended Primus Media for sustaining the conference as a platform for reflection and redefinition of the role of media in nation-building. He stressed that the power of influence in the digital age must be carefully managed, as it has the capacity to either advance progress or entrench retrogression.

“The stories we tell today will become the history our children inherit tomorrow. If we frame influence with wisdom, integrity, and purpose, then the change we fuel will not only transform our present but also secure our future,” he said.

The keynote speaker underscored two major intersections shaping media practice today: the intersection of activism and rascality in the digital age, and the intersection of media and politics. While acknowledging the vital role of activism as the conscience of society, Agbaje cautioned that advocacy must not degenerate into mischief or sensationalism. Similarly, he urged media professionals to uphold fairness and resist being used as tools of propaganda or division in politics.

According to him, the credibility of politics in any society is inseparable from the credibility of its media. He therefore tasked practitioners to embrace truth, inclusivity, and nation-building as guiding principles.

Agbaje concluded by congratulating Primus Media on the success of the conference and charged participants to leave with a renewed commitment to shaping narratives that inspire action, foster accountability, and strengthen peace and unity in Nigeria.
