The 33 local government chairmen in Oyo State, under the aegis of the Oyo Local Government Forum, have expressed deep sorrow over the passing of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, His Royal Majesty, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, who was confirmed dead on the morning of Monday, July 7, 2025.

Born on July 5, 1935, the late monarch was installed as the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadanland on July 12, 2024, at the iconic Mapo Hall, Ibadan. His ascension followed a long and distinguished journey through the traditional chieftaincy hierarchy, marked by decades of devoted service to Ibadanland.

In a statement jointly signed by the Forum Chairman, Hon. Sikiru Sanda, and the Forum’s Spokesperson, Hon. Ibrahim Akintayo, the local government chairmen extended their heartfelt condolences to the royal family, the Government of Oyo State, the Olubadan-in-Council, and the people of Ibadanland on the demise of the revered monarch.

“The passing of Oba Olakulehin leaves a profound void in the hearts of all who knew him,” the statement read. “Yet, his memory will forever remain a beacon of inspiration and guidance to generations to come.”

The chairmen described the late Olubadan as a unifying figure whose brief but impactful reign embodied dignity, wisdom, and an unwavering commitment to the cultural heritage and unity of the Ibadan people.

“As Ibadanland mourns the loss of a titan, the enduring legacy of Oba Olakulehin will continue to resonate across the land. His reign, though short, was marked by grace, strength, and a deep sense of purpose,” the Forum noted.

The Forum prayed for the repose of the monarch’s soul and urged all indigenes and residents of Ibadan to uphold the values of peace, unity, and tradition which the late Olubadan so passionately championed.
