Properties worth millions of naira were destroyed in a fire incident at a shopping complex in Ibadan, Oyo State Capital.

The Fire incident occurred beside Akin-Alamu Building, Papa Alakia Isebo Road, Ibadan, affecting five (05) out of ten (10) shops in the building.

Special Adviser to the Governor on Fire Service Reform/Agency Chairman, Hon. Moroof Adebayo Akinwande confirmed the incident.

He said that no casualty was recorded.

However, Akinwande in a statement released and made available to Heritage Echo said, “On Tuesday 1st June,2025, at exactly 23:22hrs, the incident was reported through a telephone call by Mr Olarewaju that there was a fire incident at the above stated address.

The Firemen, led by CFS Adesina Olusoji, promptly deployed to the scene of the incident, and on arrival, we met shops engulfed by fire. We quickly swung into action and restricted the fire from spreading to unaffected nearby shops and properties.

The fire was completely extinguished and necessary salvage was done.
The fire affected five(5) out of ten (10) shops and the Agency’s personnel saved properties worth millions of naira.

However, the fire incident was traced to an electric surge igniting nearby combustibles and setting the shops ablaze.

The SA on Fire Reform/ Chairman Fire Services Agency, Hon. Moroof Adebayo Akinwande urges the public to always switch off and unplug all electrical appliances while not in use, particularly after closing work in their various workplaces to avoid an imminent fire outbreak
