Former Oyo State Commissioner for Works and Transportation, Professor Abdul-Rahmon Raphael Afonja, has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic road accident that occurred at the Soka area of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on the morning of Tuesday, June 25, 2025.

According to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Oyo State Command, the accident claimed the lives of four individuals and left one person critically injured. The crash, which occurred around 8:00 a.m., involved seven vehicles — two Nissan Micra taxi cabs, two trucks, one tanker, and two Toyota Camry cars.

Reacting to the incident, Professor Afonja described the accident as a heartbreaking tragedy, especially as the victims were simply going about their daily routines in search of livelihood.

“It is with a deeply saddened heart that I received the tragic news of the unfortunate incident which claimed the lives of four innocent citizens and left others injured,” Afonja said.

Afonja extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured. “May Almighty God grant the bereaved families the fortitude to bear this painful loss and comfort them during this difficult time,” he added.
