PHOTOS: Fire Ravages Shopping Complex in Ibadan

A devastating fire has ravaged a shopping complex in Ibadan, destroying properties worth millions of naira on Monday.

Heritage Echo gathered that the fire incident affects two (02) shops in the shopping complex at Eleyele Junction, Eleyele, Ibadan, Oyo State Capital.

However, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Fire Service Reform/ Agency Chairman, Hon. Moroof Adebayo Akinwande confirmed the incident.

In a statement released and made available to Heritage Echo, Akinwande said; “the fire incident was reported at exactly 10:35hrs on Monday 9th June,2025 through telephone call and Mrs Akinlabi to the shopping complex on fire at the above address”.

Fire personnel from Fire Service Headquarters led by ACFS Adesina Olusoji promptly left for the scene of the incident.

No casualty was recorded and Fire Service was able to save properties worth billions of naira.

“On getting there, it was discovered to be shops where at the upper floor of a storey shopping complex on fire . We swiftly engaged our equipment and curtailed the fire from gaining momentum and was restricted from spreading to other shops”.

The fire affected only two shops out of thirty -five (35) shops in the complex.

Also, the fire was as a result of sparks from closed high tension poles and ignited combustibles on the roof of the building and set the shops ablaze.

Hon. Akinwande, Special Adviser to the Governor on Fire Services Agency Reform/ Chairman specifically acknowledged the quick response of the firemen to the incident and charged the public to desist from indiscriminate erecting of structures without observing the minimum of 5.5m clearance to the high tension distribution lines, so as to avoid fire incident due to electric sparks from the power lines.

He also, advised the people of Oyo State to promptly call the agency and give the correct information whenever there is a fire emergency and other related emergencies.
