PHOTOS: Apprentice Injured in Ibadan Road Accident Involving Petrol Tanker and Truck

A disturbing road accident occurred in Ibadan, the Capital of Oyo State on Wednesday involving a petrol tanker and a truck.

It was learnt that the incident occurred at Michael Koleoso Govenrment Reserved Area (GRA) along Oyo/Ibadan Expressway, Iroko, Ibadan.

Heritage Echo gathered that the tanker carrying 45,000 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS)losing control and collides with another trailer while on motion and catching fire.

According to our correspondence, the apprentice was injured and has been hospitalized at the nearby hospital for proper medical attention.

Special Adviser to the Governor on Fire Service Reform Hon. Moroof Adebayo Akinwande confirmed the incident to Heritage Echo News on Thursday.

Akinwande in his statement reaffirmed that;
The fire incident was reported at exactly 10:30hrs on Wednesday 4th June, 2025 through telephone call and Mrs Abioye to falling petrol tanker on fire at the above address.

Immediately, the address of the fire was taken, firemen led by ACFS Tijani promptly deployed to the scene of the incident and on getting there, we met an IVECO trailer tanker regd.no KEY 909YE ( KWARA) of 45,000litres capacity loaded with petroleum motor spirit (PMS) well alight.

The agency personnel swiftly swung into action by applying necessary chemicals and observing all precautionary measures to avoid explosion that might lead to fire disaster. The fire was completely extinguished within a short time.

No death was recorded but the motor boy sustained minor injury and conveyed to the nearest hospital for treatment.

However, the incident was as a result of collision between the Petrol tanker and a empty MACK truck container with red.no T6267LA (LAGOS) whilst trying to maneuver the potholes in a single lane.

The Special Adviser on Fire Reform/Chairman of this Agency advised the motorist’s to drive with care and observe all the road regulations particularly during the festive period.

He also assured the public that fire service is always on standby duty , they should not hesitate to call our emergency lines whenever there is fire incident and other related emergencies within the state
