The Oyo State former Commissioner for Works and Transport, Professor Abdul-Rahman Raphael Afonja PARA, has donated cash to Oyo pilgrims participating in the 2025 Hajj exercise in Makkah, Saudi Arabia, as emergency funds for medical purposes.

During a visit to the pilgrims at their Muna tent on Wednesday, Afonja who prayed Ishai with them, expressed joy in witnessing the Hajj activities, including entering the state of Ihram, performing Tawaf, Safa, and Marwa, and participating in the spiritual activities of the Day of ‘Arafah.

Afonja expressed gratitude for connecting with the Oyo pilgrims and sharing in their spiritual journey, hoping their Mecca experiences would deepen their connection with Allah and reflect His glory.

He equally commended the pilgrims for their endurance and steadfastness, noting that the Hajj experience is a leveller that brings people together regardless of wealth or status.

Afonja urged the pilgrims to continue praying for the success of Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration, praising the governor’s performance in areas such as infrastructural development, health, youth empowerment, and education.

He expressed optimism about the future under Makinde’s leadership and reaffirmed his commitment to contributing to the state’s development.

The former commissioner however called on other stakeholders to join hands in supporting Governor Makinde’s vision for a better and brighter future for all Oyo State residents.

Sheikh Hashim Atere, Chairman of the Pilgrims Board, commended Prof. Afonja for his generosity and support, despite walking a long distance to visit the pilgrims.

This selfless act underscores the unity and solidarity that brings people together beyond societal divides.
