A tanker carrying 45,000 liters of petroleum has lost control in Irepo, Oyo township.

Heritage Echo gathered that the incident occurred on Friday at Irepo area along the Ibadan/Oyo expressway, Oyo township.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Fire Services Reforms and Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service Agency, Hon. Moroof Adebayo Akinwande, confirmed the incident.

Hon. Akinwande, in a statement released and made available to Heritage Echo News on Saturday, said the fire incident was reported at exactly 11:45hrs on Friday, 23rd May 2025, through a telephone call and Mr Blessings to the incident at the said address”.

“The Agency’s Officers led by ACFS Tijani Bamidele promptly deployed to the scene of the incident.

“On getting to the scene of the incident, we met an INVECO trailer tanker registration no (Katsina) MA 183 SA loaded with 45,000 liters capacity of petroleum spirit swerved off the road and fell by the roadside. He said.

The firemen swiftly swung into action by covering the spillage with a chemical foam compound to neutralize the flammability of the content to prevent it from attracting naked fire that might lead to an explosion.

However, the operation was carried out successfully and normalcy has been restored back for the road users.

Addressing the newsmen, the SA Fire Services Agency Reform/Chairman, Hon. Moroof Adebayo Akinwande, urged the road users and entire communities to dissociate themselves from the habit of scooping the petroleum spirit from falling petroleum spirit trailer tankers.

He made them realize that a safe soul can only celebrate a birthday tomorrow. Safety first and always.
