Dramatic Rescue: Oyo Fire Service Battles Multiple Blazes, Saves Properties Worth Millions

The Oyo State Fire Service has made a dramatic rescue, saving properties worth millions of Naira in multiple fire incidents across the Pacesetter State.

The swift response, as well as the professionalism of the firefighters, prevented what could have been a catastrophic loss of life and property.

According to the Agency Chairman, Hon. Moroof Adebayo Akinwande reiterated that from different places in Ibadan and Òyó township, the agency has been up to the tasks of providing safety to the area quenched by fire.

He stated that although properties were lost, firefighters were able to swiftly contain and extinguish the blazes upon arrival at the scenes in different locations.

In the Sanyo area, the agency quenched a fire involving Layland DAF Truck at Oyebamiji Transport Services. No casualty was recorded, but the fire slightly affected the fiber body, and the men on duty were able to curtail the fire from spreading to the engine compartment and other trucks at the workshop.

However, the fire was a result of overheating of the fiber body due to the oxyacetylene welding system.

Fire Outbreak Opposite Toun Empire Filling Station, Ologuneru

According to the Chairman of Oyo State Fire Service Agency, Hon. Moroof Akinwande, more damages could have been done in the early hours of Saturday, May 10th but for the intervention of the agency.

His words;
The fire incident was reported at exactly 09:51hrs on Saturday, 10th May 2025, through a phone call to the house on fire at the above address.

The fire personnel led by ACFS Olubunmi promptly turned out to the scene of the incident, and on getting there, it was the upper floor of a private-story residential building on fire. The team swiftly swung into action and curtailed the fire from spreading to other parts of the building and the fire was completely extinguished.

Akinwande said no casualty was recorded.

The fire was a result of sparks from a wall socket in one of the rooms, which ignited combustible materials and set the room ablaze.

Fire Dosed in the Sogoye area, Bode, Ibadan

Similarly, in the early hours of Saturday, MAY 10, 2025, through security trust fund toll-free 615 to the fire incident at Sogoye area, Bode, Ibadan.

The fire personnel led by ACFS Olubunmi promptly deployed to the scene of the incident, and on arrival, it was a prefabricated Furniture workshop, and a church was affected by the fire.

The fire was a result of the burning of the hips of sawdust by an unknown person and spread to the workshop and church and set them on fire. No casualty was recorded.

Hon. Adebayo Akinwande, however, urged the residents to desist from indiscriminate burning of refuse.

Equally, the agency averted a fire outbreak at Ile-Okun, Agboye area, Oyo.

According to the Chairman and Special Adviser to the Governor on Fire Services, Hon. Moroof Adebayo Akinwande stated that the swift response of the fire team in Òyó township saved the whole house from being completely razed down.

His words;
The fire incident was reported at exactly 02:55hrs on Sunday 11th May 2025, through running caller and Mr Dauda Ismail to the house on fire at the above address.

The Agency’s Officers, led by ACFS Tijani Bamidele, promptly deployed to the scene of the incident. On getting to the scene of the incident, the team met the kitchen of an ancient building of six rooms engulfed by fire. The fireman swiftly swung into action and the fire was promptly curtailed and restricted from spreading to the other parts of the building.

The root cause of the fire was lit charcoal left unattended to ignite nearby combustible materials in the kitchen and set it ablaze.

Akinwande said no casualty was recorded, the fire affected only the kitchen of the building, and Officers of the Agency were able to save properties worth millions of naira.

He further admonished the resident to desist from the habit of negligence to electrical appliances, and indiscriminate burning of refuse while reiterating the Agency’s commitment to providing top-notch fire safety services to the people of Oyo State
