In a surprising political development, a prominent grassroots politician in Atiba local government, Hon. Salaudeen Jelili Olatunji and his followers, have formally announced his resignation from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

Olatunji, who hails from Ward 06 and is the former Supervisory Councilor for Youth and Sports in Atiba local government, Offa-meta, Oyo, and a key figure in the party’s Ward and local structure, submitted his resignation letter to his ward chairman earlier today.

The letter, dated August 27, 2025, cited “due to recent developments and a divergence between my personal convictions and the current direction of the party at both the local and state levels.

While no official statement has been made regarding his next political move, sources close to the politician and his followers suggest consultations are ongoing with stakeholders across various political platforms.

Olatunji’s exit marks a significant shift within the PDP’s grassroots mobilization in Atiba local government area, where he has long been regarded as a stabilizing force.

His departure together with the group of followers is likely to spark speculation about potential alignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to the letter submitted earlier today, Olatunji said; “I write to formally inform you of my decision to resign as a member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) with immediate effect. After a period of deep reflection and careful consideration, I have concluded that it is in my best interest to discontinue my association with the party”.

“This decision was not made lightly, as I have valued the relationships and experiences I have gained over the years as a party member. However, due to recent developments and a divergence between my personal convictions and the current direction of the party at both the local and state levels, I believe I can no longer, in good conscience, continue as a member”.

“I appreciate the opportunity to have served under the umbrella of the PDP and wish the party well in its future endeavors.”

However, Heritage Echo gathered that, no Party officials have yet to respond to the latest development.
