LG Chairmen: Makinde’s Cabinet Reshuffle Shows Vision and Purpose

Local government chairmen across Oyo State have expressed strong support for Governor Seyi Makinde’s recent cabinet reshuffle, describing the move as a strategic step towards enhancing governance and accelerating development at all levels.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the 33 elected chairmen, through their chairman, Hon. Sakiru Sanda, and Hon Ibrahim Akintayo, the Public Relations Officer, commended the governor for what they termed a “bold and purposeful” decision, adding that the reshuffle reflects his commitment to responsive leadership and effective service delivery.

“We believe this reshuffle is a calculated effort by His Excellency to reposition the machinery of government for optimal performance,” the statement read. “It shows the governor’s willingness to make tough decisions in the interest of the people.”

The cabinet reshuffle, which was announced on May 5, 2025, involved significant changes in some key ministries.

Among the notable appointments, the reshuffle sees the Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Seun Ashamu, moved to the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, while the Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Abdulmojeed Mogbonjubola, moved to the Ministry of Public Works, Infrastructure and Transport.

The Commissioner for Public Works, Dahud Shangodoyin, moved to the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources. Similarly, the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Solihu Adelabu, was moved to the Ministry of Establishments and Training, while the Commissioner for Establishments, Segun Olayiwola, was reassigned to man the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology.”

The chairmen pledged to work collaboratively with the reassigned commissioners, stressing the importance of synergy between state and local governments in delivering development projects to the grassroots.

“We are ready to align with the reshuffled cabinet in delivering on the governor’s Roadmap for Sustainable Development,” they added. “Our shared goal remains the upliftment of the lives of our people through good governance.”


The renewed support from the local government chairmen is expected to further strengthen the implementation of state policies and reinforce the administration’s development agenda across all zones of the state.
