The Chairman, the Coronation Public Lecture Syndicate, and the Vice Chancellor of Atiba University have spoken briefly on the Coronation Colloquium dedicated to preserving the Oyo legacy in honoring the coronation of new Alaafin of Oyo land, Ilu Baba Yeye, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Akeem Abimbola Owoade I.
While making his brief information about the Coronation Colloquium today, held at the Federal School of Surveying, Oyo. Themed “Tha Alaafin In History and Modern Leadership: Preserving the Legacy, Defining the Future”.

He proclaimed that the Colloquium is the intellectual and cultural cornerstone of the coronation celebration, known as a stronghold of Yoruba culture and tradition, the Oyo Empire (established by Oranmiyan around 1300) has long served as a symbol of administration, culture, and leadership for Yoruba territory and beyond.

According to him; “This Coronation Colloquium for this momentous occasion-the coronation of our new king in Oyo Township a unique event that is expected to unite the knowledge of the present, the wisdom of the past, and the vision for the future. It is the intellectual and cultural cornerstone of the coronation celebration, known as a stronghold of Yoruba culture and tradition, the Oyo Empire (established by Oranmiyan around 1300) has long served as a symbol of administration, culture, and leadership for Yoruba territory and beyond.

We must consider the rich cultural traditions that have molded our identity and the dynamic function of monarchy in modern society as we commemorate the coronation of the new Alaafin of Oyo, our new King.
In addition to commemorating the coronation of His Imperial Majesty Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade I as the new steward of our beloved customs, we are gathered here today to consider discussing the Oyo’s lasting contributions to our cultural, political, and social identity as well as its enduring legacy as an empire. We are also gathered to set the agenda for Oyo in the face of globalization, modernity,, and politics.
This colloquium’s theme, “The Alaafin in History and Modern Leadership: Preserving the Legacy and Defining the Future,” is not only relevant but also essential to our shared goal of development, progress, and unity as well as to preserving Oyo’s legacy and standing in Yoruba land and beyond.
As the most enduring institution in Yoruba land, the Alaafin has played a transformative and leadership role in promoting peace and prosperity in Yoruba land. We will also be discussing the symbiotic relationship between tradition and modern governance, the importance of cultural institutions in national development, and more.
We are fortunate to have eminent academics, historians, decision-makers, and cultural stewards among us whose perspectives will guide our future. Their knowledge and viewpoints will enhance our conversation and reinforce the importance of our treasured customs while adjusting to the needs of a changing global environment.
We promise our steadfast support and allegiance to His Imperial Majesty, hoping that his rule will bring forth a period of peace, prosperity, and a revitalized cultural renaissance in Oyo Town, Yoruba Land, Nigeria, and globally.
We hope that under the leadership of His Imperial Majesty, Iku Baba Yeye, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade 1, Alaafin of Oyo, Oyo Town will reach new heights and carry on the tradition of the great Alaafins (Oranmiyan, Aganju, Atiba, Lawani Amubieya, Adelu Agunloye Ladigbolu Akanbi, Adeyemi Alowolodu), that came before you.

Our legacy. We sincerely thank our esteemed speakers and guests for their contributions to this intellectual
Assembly. And to the wonderful people of Oyo, generations are still inspired by your unwavering commitment to our traditions. Let’s approach today’s sessions with open minds and hearts, embracing innovation and learning from our forebears to ensure a successful future under our new king. I want to express my sincere gratitude to the planning committee, the resource persons, and everyone else who has put in many hours to make this event a reality.
May the discussions of today not only broaden our knowledge but also motivate us to take action for the patriotic development of Oyo Alaafin, Yoruba land, and Nigeria.
I would want to welcome everyone once more and express my gratitude for joining us on this historic occasion. May our discussions today be guided by the spirit of Oyo’s glory and heritage.
